Dorset countryside break

Forthcoming dates – 7th – 9th May (now full)  and   14^th – 16^th May 2010 (available)

I am fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the country and would like to invite you to share a weekend with me in Dorset. I have planned an exciting and varied weekend that enables us to visit 6 different types of habitats.

• Saturday – After breakfast I am aiming to start on the river where I expect kingfishers to be be nesting not far away.
• Then we will move locations to have a stroll in some beautiful woodland that is carpeted with bluebells and full of birdsong.
• After lunch I am still keeping my options open but am planning to explore an interesting area of chalk downland.
• Then in the evening we will sneak into a comfortable hide and watch badgers and maybe foxes, at close range!
• Sunday – I would like to take you to the Dorset coast and a country park offers some wonderful scenery as well as a variety of seabirds.
• After lunch we will be driving past the lane that leads to the famous Arne RSPB reserve, therefore we will finish our weekend exploring that heath and estuary habitat.

My interest in the natural world is very broad based; therefore we will enjoy and enthuse about everything – not only birds but also the flowers and trees we discover, as well as insects or scenery.

I am not planning a high-speed hike, I tend to potter and ramble – stopping and looking and then moving on a bit. I feel that about 12 people is an ideal number and will hire a minibus large enough to accommodate us all.

I have selected The Crown Hotel in Blandford as a suitable base and I have already booked rooms. The Crown Hotel will provide you with bed and full English breakfast and we will also have our evening meal there on the Friday when you arrive. I have tried to provide a variety of other interesting eating-places – from an al-fresco picnic to a country pub.
