David’s first book was published in 1982 and was a remarkable photographic study of the life of the Kingfisher. It included the first photographs taken underground in the nest, underwater catching fish and diving. Since then he has been the photographer and author of 12 other books for 4 different publishers, including Cassell and Lion Publishing. Although he has an evocative style of writing, most of his books are heavily based on his creative photography.

“Mr Boag is a fine writer, but he is a phenomenal photographer. Mere words cannot do his expertise justice; the 66 colour photographs alone justifying the price of this publication.”

Corporate Commissions

In 1998 David was approached to photograph, write and design a book that captured the natural beauty and wildlife of a working quarry. This lead to a variety of other corporate commissions which took him to all areas of the UK, to Ireland and then to America. He has created 7 beautiful, coffee-table type books that are a credit to the landowners, as well as David’s artistry and ability to track down illusive subjects. Aggregate Industries Plc. were so delighted with their books that they made further use of the photographs by decorating their new offices with massive prints and creating a prestigious calendar.

“This book is another fine example of David Boag’s photographic talent and knowledge of wildlife.”
Angela Yeoman O.B.E. D.L.

“We are absolutely thrilled with our book on Clarendon. You have managed to capture the magic of the place through the seasons and it is a wonderful archive to possess. Thank you.”

“So well received was ‘Natural Quarry’ that we commissioned David to undertake a similar project across our US operations – once again, he has produced an outstanding series of photographs.”

Leather bound, hand-crafted book

This is an exclusive area of David’s work that he keeps low-key – because these clients own private, large, country estates, which they wish to keep private! Over the years David has been commissioned to create massive personal heirlooms for over 15 such properties. He has been trusted to visit the secret comers of estates belonging to clients such as Lord Radnor, Lord Rockley and Hugo Wood-Homer.

Smaller Projects

The John Lewis Partnership needed an informative and attractive guide to the famous Longstock Water Garden. David was commissioned to photograph the gardens over a period of a year, as well as write the text and design the layout. He is often requested to undertake photo shoots of country or garden activities, and has recently been commissioned to photograph Longleat House for Lord Bath.
